I’m Magda,
I was born in Corfu. Since childhood I remember walking around the Old Town admiring the tall historic buildings, playing hide and seek in the galleries of the Old Fortress, listening with rapt attention to my grandmother’s recount stories and local legends of the island. I could sense the uniqueness of the place in the people and the atmosphere and my love for the island’s history and culture was born.
When I finished school in Corfu, I studied at the Democritus University of Thrace, at the Department of Languages, Philology and Culture of the Black Sea Countries. I then completed an internship at the Department of Russian Language and Literature in St. Petersburg. Returning to Greece, I studied at the Corfu School of Guides with the aim of returning here professionally.
Since 2010 I have been working as a professional tourist guide in Corfu, where I live with my family.
The more time I spend in this profession, the more passionate I become about it. My love of my home and profession are intertwined and I am constantly developing my skills with years and experience.
Every day, in every tour, I look forward to giving the visitors exciting information and beautiful scenery. It’s my aim to give them perfect memories as a parting gift to take back to their homeland.
Athina and I, apart from being very good friends, share the same vision for Corfu tourism and we pour our energy into Corfuting guided tours with enthusiasm and love for the visitors and the island.
I’m Athina,
I have always been fascinated by travel and its rich experiences, having grown up in Piraeus, watching the ships and people come and go.
I studied History at the Ionian University of Corfu, the first university founded in Greece. Remaining based in Corfu, I then continued my postgraduate studies in “Methodology of Criticism and Editing of Historical Sources” at the Ionian University with a scholarship.
My passion for the history of Corfu pushed me to continue my studies in a related subject. With a scholarship from the Academy of Athens, I was a researcher at the Institute of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Studies in Venice. I spent two years there conducting historical research in the State Archives of Venice and the Historical Archives of the Hellenic Institute of Venice.
I returned to Corfu and obtained my Professional Guide Diploma from the Ministry of Tourism, thus combining history, language learning, and travel, all my favourite things.
My passion and knowledge of Corfu, along with my extrovert character, make me practically a Corfiot! I now live here with my family. As a tourist guide, I welcome visitors to Corfu with the same knowledge I would in my hometown. After the hundreds of guided tours I have given, I still retain my enthusiasm and creative need to pass on as much information as I can.
